The Life of Jaycee Dugard

Many people have probably heard about Jaycee Dugard, but if not, here is a little glimps into her life. Jaycee was kidnapped on June 10th, 1991. She was 11 years old at the time. She was abducted at her bus stop by Phillip Garrido. She was missing for over 18 years. She encountered several years of sexual assault and rape by Garrido and his wife Nancy. Garrido's unusual behavior at his parole meeting is what set a spark to the investigation. Jaycee was rescued after more then 18 years after her abduction. Convicted sex offender Garrido and Nancy, are awaiting trial on charges of kiddnapping and sexually assauting Jaycee for years while they keeping her hidden in a tent in their back yard. Jaycee also has two children; Garrido is the father.

This type of event shows the holes in our legal system as well as all the sick people we have out on the streets! On several occasions authorities failed to make a connection with Garrido and Jaycee Dugard. There were many missed opportunities. When I heard about this case, it made me think of the little boy that had been kidnapped and held captive for 4 years by a male sex offender. I think the boy's name was Steve or something but during the time his held captive, he was molested and tortured repeatedly. Eventually, he was even forced to seek out new victims for his kidnapper to molest.
Both cases are quite disturbing to hear about. It makes me wonder at what point does the victim loose all sense of hope and give into their abductor? Back in the 70s, there was a case in Stockholm where some men robbed a bank and held their hostages for 5 days. After the 5 days, some of the hostages actually became attached to the robbers (one of the hostages later married one of the robbers). It was this incident that coined the phenomena Stockholm Syndrome. Although uncommon, the FBI’s Hostage Barricade Database System indicates that 27% of victims exhibited signs of Stockholm Syndrome.
My heart goes out to Jaycee Dugard and her family. It's hard to imagine having your child disappear and then find out 18 years later, they are still alive. This family has been through a tremendous amount of pain and it will take many years for them to recover (if at all) from this.

I have never heard of this case before! This is crazy! How could they have kept her for eighteen years and nobody ever know? Especially after having two children, you would just think that at some point she would have been able to reach out to someone and get help. Maybe she just stopped trying, or maybe she did, I have no idea what it is like to be in he position that she was, especially only at the age 11! I just feel like 18 years is so long to keep someone hidden, and she was only in a tent in the backyard, was she chained up? It just makes you wonder. And she had to little girls, I wonder if they ever knew what was going on. I tried looking up more information about what had happened, but it seems like no one is talking or doing interviews. This case does give hope that missing children can be found, however this story seems to have a lot of missing and confusing details.
