Puppy puncher to Spend a Month in Jail

This article made me absolutely sick!  A man from Sioux City was charged with punching his puppy to death.  The worst part was, he was found guilty of animal torture and was only sentenced to jail for year, which he will only spend a month of there, since he was credited for previous time spent there.  The judge wanted to keep in mind that he didn't kill an actual person, but how is it ok that an innocent puppy was murdered and in an awful way.   Since this man didn't have a history of domestic violence the judge was even more lenient.  Along with his Jail time Loggins is to pay a $625 fine, $300 to the Iowa Department of Corrections and he will have to reimburse the Woodbury County Jail $50 for each day he is there. He's also required to undergo substance abuse counseling and a psychological evaluation.

Wow this is horrible. I couldn't imagine anyone who is stable to take abuse out like that on a dog just because it urinated on the floor. I dont agree with the judge reducing his sentence because he already spent time in jail. He was in jail for diffferent charges so it shouldnt go toward this sentencing. I do agree however that he should pay fines and that he has to go to substance abuse counseling and get psychological evaluated. I personally wouldnt want him around children until he has showing that hes completely stable, or it gives him the opportunity to possibly hurt a human this time.

Stuff like this happens frequently and goes undetected a majority of the time. What should happen to farmers abusing livestock? From what i have personally seen in meat packing places is they literally beat the life out of these animals yet if they were reported they most likely would get a fine what makes livestock any less valuable than other animals? It is very common for non habbitual offenders and non violent ones to getan extremly low sentence. Ethically I find it didnt meet punishment but law wise people get off with less time for doing worse things to other human beings. The reason people go to prision is because they are a threat to society's safety. This puppy puncher is most likely not going to walk around town punching every puppy he sees. Yes, his actions do indicate some bigger issues but he definitely needs a mental evaluation because it might lead to other harmful acts. The thing i would be worried about is if he has the right to still posses animals because he should loose that right permenantly as with a case that happened in my hometown. A bunch of 20 yr old drunk college kids thought it would be hiarious to douse 2 opossums with gasoline and set it on fire and then laugh hysterically while videotapping it and submitting it to a humor wwebsite heres the link if you want to read about that http://www.pet-abuse.com/cases/4840/IA/US/

This is so sad! I never understood why anyone would want to abuse any type of animal. When I was younger, a house down the road from us had a lot of dogs that they treated horribly. They would leave them outside during the winter, and never take them in or provide shelter for them, even when it was -20 degrees outside. I never understood what type of a person would a get pet just to treat it badly. If you can't support it, then why get it? Based on this story, Iowa and other states as well need to come up with stricter animal abuse laws. This behavior is absolutely uncalled for. I don't understand how the judge completely changed his decision, especially with something like this.

What makes me mad is that the judge said it was not a human, which is why his punishment wasn't more harsh. Animals have feelings too, and punching a dog to death is a horrible thing to do, along with any other form of animal abuse. I think in order to own a pet, one must be stable financially so they can afford food, water, and shelter for it, and I think they should also be required to run a background check to make sure they don't have a violent past that may persuade them to punish the animal if it behaves badly. Laws here and other places need to be way more strict when dealing with someone who commits an animal abuse crime.
